Many patients considering a smile makeover are unsure where to turn for help. So many dentists claim “cosmetic”, it gets confusing. You have likely noticed that almost every dental office has a name like “ABC Dental, General & Cosmetic Dentistry”. Cosmetic Dentistry is not a recognized dental specialty like Orthodontics or Oral Surgery so every dentist has the right to claim to be a cosmetic dentist. There are many dentists who practice general or family dentistry that are very good at cosmetics as well, so you may already be in the right place. How can you tell though? Here are a few ideas to consider.
Cosmetic Dentistry is often assumed to be limited to elective types of procedures like veneers, whitening, and braces. It is also mostly thought of in relation to treatment on the front 6-8 teeth. In reality, much of what dentists do can be considered cosmetic. As a cosmetic dentist, I take as much pride in matching natural teeth in function, looks, and durability when I am working on the back teeth as I do when I am working on the front teeth.
I am excited to kick off this blog. Blogs aren’t as novel as they once were and a blog about Dentistry certainly isn’t too exciting, but I am confident that the posts to follow will provide valuable answers for many patients.
"I really appreciate how Dr. Taylor took the time to fully explain the procedure to me. He's a great dentist!"
